1920's Black Chemise Sheer Silk Chiffon Beaded Flapper Dress

$298.00

An original, early 1920s black beaded silk chiffon flapper dress with a fabulous art nouveau pattern of black glass beads. The chiffon is black, and the dress is hand beaded with iridescent black glass rectangular seed beads in a symmetrical pattern of thick stripes from top to bottom. A popular type of eveningwear during the 1920s, this dress has a loose, sleek, chemise-style with sleeveless armholes and wide-cut necklines that can be pulled directly over the head. A profusion of embellishment, consisting of glass beading captures and refracts light when in motion, counterbalancing the minimalist form.

The dress is sleeveless with a scoop neck front and back. The beading on both sides is identical, a slightly higher neckline on the back differentiates the front from the back. The straight bodice flows down to the drop waist, where the skirt is gathered with extra fabric in a “bouquet” on each side of the skirt (see detail photos). The dress is sheer and has no slip.

This dress is in good antique condition, keeping in mind that it's over 100 years old. There are small holes and pinholes in the fabric scattered throughout (see detail photos). Parts of the dress have been mended. There are a few loose threads with beads missing here and there - these have been anchored so remaining beads are secure. The dress is wearable, but very delicate and fragile.

Due to the fragile nature of the dress, NO RETURNS will be accepted~ please see photos provided for any damage/imperfections & take them into consideration; ask any questions before buying.
